The Community Heart Health Coalition of Ulster County chairs The Healthy after School Snack Food Committee. We are pleased that the County Executive Mike Hein and the Ulster County Health Department have recognized the Healthy Snack Food Guidelines generated by our committee as a model for Ulster County after School programs to use as a way of helping children consume healthier snack foods. A press conference was held at Mac Park on March 26, 2012 to announce this initiative. Mac Park is the first after school program in Ulster County to announce their intentions to implement the guidelines which are based on the Choose Sensibly Guidelines developed by the New York State Nutrition Association.

Here are a group of volunteers reclaiming an abandoned
piece of the rail trail and making it walkable and
user friendly for people with disabilities. This project
was made possible with funds from The Community Heart
Health Coalition of Ulster County, the direction and
coordination of Kingston Parks and Recreation and
the help of volunteers.
As members of the coalition we are looking to increase
the opportunities for our neighbors to choose healthier
lifestyles through food selection and fitness opportunities.
As a community, working together we can combine resources
to create programs and events, as well as supporting physical
activity training and health education efforts.
